Body armors are protective gears primarily used for self-defense that can be found in a variety of different forms such as T-shirts, vests, coats, trousers and other forms of clothing that can be bought in stores, specialty shops and even on the Internet. Body armors usually serve as cover against injury in case of emergencies such as falls, shootings, car-jackings, robberies and terrorist attacks. However, there are also people who use body armors as weapons.

One example of an effective body armors is the V-50 or Velocity Body Armor. The V-50 was designed by James Ellis “J.A.” Ellis whose family had been part of the American resistance during World War II. After the war, his family settled in New Mexico where he started a clothing business that would eventually develop into a successful body armor manufacturing company. The V-50 was designed after studying the effects of high velocity strikes to the skull and was meant to minimize damage to the soft tissues of the body it was designed to cover.

Unlike traditional body armors, the V-50 is made from a combination of polyethylene terephthalate and fiberglass. As stated earlier, the material used in this armor plate is similar to that of the body armor of the US Marine Corps, which is classified as one of the heavier and more durable and expensive armor plates. The reason why the US Military uses the V-50 is because it has a much denser and tougher composition than regular bullet resistant armor plates found in most defense magazines. The material used in the V-50 is also better capable of absorbing impact without compromising its structural integrity than regular bullet resistant plates. This means that the V-50 is capable of preventing shrapnel and projectiles from penetrating its surface, especially when the body armor plate is hit by a high velocity projectile. The material used to construct the body armor plates is able to resist high pressures and temperatures up to mach 5, which makes it highly effective in combat situations.

With the US Army’s request for an improved bullet proof vest, it marks the first instance in which the segment led the market in offering protective body armors. The increased demand for these protective shields also marked the first time that an international company led the market in producing these protective shields. In addition to the US Army, the segment led the market in the production of body armors for law enforcement agencies in America. The FBI and police forces in America have been purchasing the V-series for years, which can be seen in the racks of police stations across the country.

The US Navy and the US Air force also use V-series protective shields for their personnel. The police departments across the country also use body armors that are manufactured by the V-series. The Department of Defense also uses V-series armor in their procurements of personal protective equipment for their personnel. As a matter of fact, V-series is the only name that comes to mind when the concept of personal protective equipment was discussed in Washington, DC in the early 1990s. With the introduction of new technologies in modern day protective devices, the use of the segmented bullet proof vests and bullet-resistant vests were replaced with one another.

Today, although the original concept of body armor still exists, but the use of lead, aluminum and the standard steel material has greatly diminished. The armor that is being made today is made from a combination of materials such as heavy duty polyester, high density foam, and soft cover laminated with thermoplastic elastomeric polyolefin or other plating materials. Due to the significant advances in technology, the armor that is used by law enforcement officers is much stronger and more effective than the armor that was used during the original introduction of this type of protection.
